FAKE GHD MKIV (Mk 4)

I have just bought a set of fake GHD's (by mistake of course) and although I probably can't help much, I thought I would write a quick guide from the things thatI have noticed. I bid on an auction, and won it. The feedback was good, but the seller had become a private seller recently, but they had 3 or 4 previous sales before the private auctions began. WhenI looked more closely the previous 3 auctions thatI could identify as being GHD's all stated unwanted present. But the feedback was positive. SoI was feeling hopeful, but slightly uneasy beofre they arrived. The postage was huge too, butI had got them for a really good price. When they arrived , 5 days later, (yesterday) I unwrapped them and they looked really good. I was feeling optimistic, there were 2 holograms, a security seal, DVD and 2 books, and 2 different numbers on the holograms. On the label on the cord it gave a number for GHD, and so I decided to ring and verify. The number for GHD was correct, and soI spoke an operator, who informed me that this particular code had been used 381 times before, and I definitely had fakes.

Clearly, Iwas not happy, and e-mailed the seller, and made a report to e-bay and PayPal. I also decided thatI would buy another pair of straighteners.I stayed with e-bay and found a seller who has sold many with excellent feedback, and the auction stated that these could be registered with GHD. I bought these and they arrived this morning giving me the opportunity to compare the fakes and the originals. Most things would not be noticeable without the 2 side by side but there were one or two things to look for. The fakes are excellent and we have compared them several times and found very little difference.

The box of the fakes had the security seal in the end of the box holding the seal on. The originals hada security seal along the side of the sleeve, which has an oval cut out and the seal goes over this and attaches to the box through it. There was no seal on the front of the box of the original, it was along the side. The books of the fake were thin and only in english. The books of the original are thick, in several languages and only just fit in the space provided. The holograms on the fake are very bright and the GHD is very clear, the original had a much less clear hologram, although the markings were similar. The DVD has a bar code printed on the back of the original, the fake had CDR written on it. The DVD in the fake did not fit properly in the box, and was actually loose whenI opened them.On comparison there were several things that looked slightly different, the colours on the box, the labels, the weight, but nothing that you would be able to notice if you didn't have both in front of you. Please be aware that these fakes are excellent, and there is very little difference with the original, even when they are side by side.

The only real advice I can offer would be, use your instinct, if you are uneasy don't bid. Look at feedback, and previous auctions selling these where possible. Pay with PayPal, they have insurance. And whatever you do, ring GHD, the number should be on the security seal and hologram (even on the fakes) and check. they will soon tell you if you have a fake. I am sure many people are using these fakes and are happy, but I bought GHD's and that is whatI wanted! I paid slightly more, but bought from a Power Seller, read the feedback, asked the questions, and received them the next day. These were registered easily with GHD andI am delighted. Just got to go through the hassle of getting my money back now!!!

I hope that this helps someone not to buy fakes from these con merchants.
